Dry Needling in Shelby, NC
If you have a muscle that won't release, pain that keeps coming back, or tension that stretching and rest haven't touched, dry needling may be the missing piece. At Black Widow Physical Therapy, TJ Wooton, DPT offers certified dry needling as a standalone service with no referral required. You don't need to be an existing patient to get started.
What Is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a Western medicine technique used by credentialed physical therapists to treat muscle pain and dysfunction. A thin, sterile needle is inserted directly into a trigger point (a tight, hypersensitive knot within a muscle) to release tension, restore blood flow, and activate the body's natural healing response.
Dry needling is grounded in anatomy, neuroscience, and musculoskeletal medicine. The goal is straightforward: find what is holding your muscle in a pain cycle and interrupt it.
Conditions commonly treated:
- Neck and shoulder pain
- Low back pain and tightness
- Headaches and jaw tension
- Hip, glute, and sciatica-pattern pain
- Knee pain and IT band tightness
- Calf tightness and Achilles issues
- Tennis elbow and forearm tension
- Sports injuries and chronic overuse pain
What to Expect
Your first visit includes a brief intake so TJ understands your history and what you're dealing with, followed by treatment in the same session. You leave having already started, not just having been assessed.
Sessions are focused and efficient. Most people notice a difference within the first two or three visits. Some feel significant relief after one. A small amount of soreness in the treated area the next day is normal and typically resolves quickly.
There is no long-term commitment required. You can start with a single session and decide from there.
